Video Press

The WordPress folks mentioned VideoPress today on twitter. Essentially, if I understand what that page says, they are offering a video hosting service as well as a plugin that enables WordPress sites to take full advantage of that service. The videos will be hosted at WordPress.com and while folks who have their own hosting ( like me ) can still use it, they will need a WordPress.com account if they don’t have one. But the plug-in will present the videos from their site.

I’ve never had a problem slapping youtube videos into my posts, and I don’t use any plugins to do so. But maybe there are people out there that want more options or control? Not sure, but this may be of interest to other WordPress users.

You may want to host the video on your own instead of Youtube if the ad’s/recommended similar videos afterwards would take people totally to a different place or product or for that matter just may be innappropriate for your audience.

Good call Kent – didn’t think of that.
